Billy may have sugar in his tank...that would explain him hangin with Sir Elton John not to long ago...and for Ted Nugent...if you have ever done any real conservation work you may just realize what an important role he has played in helping wildlife! Being that Hunting season opened on Monday...Im with Ted..."Honey wheres my bow!"

I wonder if Billy said this crap before or after he got loaded and drove his car into that lady's living room? As for comparing him to Ted Nugent, well let's just say I'd pay money to see Billy and Ted locked in a room together, would make UFC look like a game of tag. Yeah, Ted may be a real blowhard and you may not agree with his politics, but at least the dude calls it like he sees it, our buddy Billy has always been a slave to current opinion. Oh, everyone look at me, I married a vapid super model!!! I'm important!!! Stuff it Billy. Have another beer and see if you can hit a tree the next time.

From the Ted site:

Q- I appreciate what tribe nuge stands for and am thinking of joining but as a fifth generation logger here in oregon I have to ask what the organizations stand is on sustainable timber harvest? Thanks

A- TNUSA policy supports the wise utilization of all of our natural resources, including the logging industry. TNUSA fully understands and appreciates that trees are renewable resources that should be utilized. As stewards of wildlife and other natural resources, TNUSA believes that only a dirty Grateful Dead fan would believe otherwise.

Speaking of Ted v. Billy, which would you rather listen to if you needed a pick me up: Uptown Girl or Stranglehold? Sorry, Stranglehold would clothesline Uptown Girl, get in the Chevy Jimmy 4x4 and back over her head a few dozen times.

This is nothing new from Joel. In 1988 when the Boys broke his record by selling out 9 straight nights at the Garden, he said that the GD had no class. As far as I'm concerned he is a vapid pop singer and doesn't deserve our attention.

By the way does anyone remember when they "retired" the Dead's "number" at MSG before the rainforest benefit show that year. It was to honor the Sold -out record and they raised a tie-dye basketball jersey to the rafters with the number 25 (for LSD 25) on it.

And all her presents from her uptown boys!

Sweet jesus, mary, and joseph. I was wasted when i read this thread and immediately wanted to kill someone when i heard that billy joel thinks he can wipe up the grateful dead and classify it as crap. i'm still i little buzzed and i don't think i've ever been more pissed off in my life. I go to tulane university and an overwhelming majority of kids that go to this school are from long island....including a bunch of my good friends. Now, i have zero respect for that piece of land and i hope it burns in hell. billy joel could not keep up jerry in his diabetic coma. jerrry could attempt to play piano and still make billy joel look like an idiot. honestly, who has the audacity to say something like that in public? something that can be proven so completely wrong, something so ignorant. This was probably the most ridiculous thing i've ever seen in my life, and i regret reading this thread because nothing has ever pissed me off more. I'd rather have a billion people say that 5/8/77 is overrated than to ever hear what billy joel said ever again. i've never been to bj's website, but WE need to retaliate....i'm not saying send hatemail or stupid stuff like that, but stuff that tells billy joel to get a clue. This is an opinion coming from a piece of crap that habitually drives drunk into people's houses on long island. Thankyou billy joel, for making hate long island forever, and making me hate you and everything you stand for for eternity. you suck balls.

Hey, i can definitely see that you're pissed off and angry 'bout the whole thing. And nothing wrong with that. And i can respect your attitude toward BJ's ignorant and narrow-viewed statement, but really, let it go. Once you allow a statement or opinion by a "public" person or celebrity affect your life/emotions/feelings/thinking, etc., well, i hate to say it, but that's surrendering victory to them. Sure, if he said it directly about you, your family, your girl, kids, etc., hey, then i'm with you with the verbal knives and daggers.

I guess it's what always amazes me when people almost literally upset and destroy their peace of mind and composure when they react to what some piece of shit pol says from the podium or wherever, regardless of party affiliation. They're all dumbasses in my book, and i just leave it there.

Tulane ... loved the campus when i visited my brother there, oh many years ago now.

Billy who? Oh, you mean that "Piano Man" s.o.b. who's been too busy smoking a meat pipe to give us a decent tune since...well, I guess he's just been too busy being a never-was to contribute a goddamn thing.

I take that back. If it wasn't for disco and pop-music dreck like Billy-freakin-Joel I might never have "discovered" Led Zep, the Doors and Floyd...and eventually the Dead.

Oh, and what Long Island bands is he referring to? Never heard of em. I have, however, heard of the Dead, Santana, the Jefferson Airplane, Big Brother, Quicksilver, Charlatans...ETCETCETC. I'd suggest he could shove his egomania square up his dirtcan...though I somehow think it would not be the first visitor to that locale.

Of course i know the Charlatans you mean, but i'll throw in Charlatans UK as well. Great breezy Brit pop from the shoegaze era, but better than most of the rest of 'em. "Some Friendly" beats out anything Billy Joke ever did.

Way back in 1967 B.J. was in a psych-pop band "The Hassles" - he's embarrassed by that early stuff he did now...

I think it's better than his hit records.

The Hassles did a promo video for one of their fuzz guitar numbers, "I Hear Voices" (apparently a Scopitone) that's surfaced recently, you can see a bit of it in the Vh1 Behind the Music episode on Billy Joel.

He says it was just psychedelic shit, so rub it in if you get the chance...

I'm sorry but i have to rant some more....i'll keep it short. Let's be honest, Billy Joel knocking the grateful dead and the '60's music sound is like Nick Lachey (the dueche from boyband "98 Degreess") knocking on phish.....yah....pathetic...(and i don't care whether you're a phish fan or not....my analogy is true).

I think Billy Joel hits the nail right on the head! If those Long Island bands had shared the stage with the Dead, they *would* have wiped the stage with them. Literally. After the show, those long Island bands would be out on the stage wiping it, to earn their keep and justify staying on the tour as opening acts.

As a native Long Islander, I can tell you that the Dead were always huge there. Don't be hatin' on the whole fish-shaped place just because Billy Joel has a massive case of pianist envy.

If it weren't for Long Island deadheads, a lot of those great upstate New York concerts (Ithaca, Binghamton, Rochester, Buffalo) might never have been what they were. Who do you think was attending all of those shows? Upstate New York college towns were and still are LOADED with Long Island kids. I should know. I was one of them.

I'll jump in on the Long Island thing. We may have all left it, but it produced some OK folks. The Tulane guy should look at who or what place should burn in hell, or whatever he said. Didn't we just take a bunch of you poor waterlogged SOB's in? I love New Orleans, but I hate that the major musical force coming out of there these days is hip-hop and rap. With that, I don't go on a big rant about the place. And just for the record, who the hell wouldn't want to get with a vapid super model??? What is this guy, an idiot? Billy Joel wasn't :)

Let's not confuse the issue here. There is quite a difference between "getting with a vapid super model" v. marrying a vapid super model. "getting with" merely entails a night of earth shattering bodily excretions, whereas marrying would involve years of attempting to teach her how to tie her shoes. Sure, I'd take the "getting with" option in a heartbeat, but would stop short of exchanging vows with a woman who may or may not be able to understand words with multiple consonants.

a lot of NYC bands seem to conflict with the SF bands, I remember Lou Reed saying he thought GD and Jefferson Airplane sucked, etc. although I like Lou Reed songs.

Either way theyre both full of shit, no band could turn a corner like the Dead, theyd be lost trying to compete with them
